2178427 - update statistics spid stalled for many days - SAP ASE

You are running SAP Business Suite applications on the SAP ASE database.

You find that ASE database server processes (spids) belonging to completed "update index statistics" jobs executed by DBACockpit ATM, remain as active spids on the ASE database server and do not go away.

These spids seem hung and are not accumulating any physical io when checked via:

select physical_io from sysprocesses where spid = <server process id of the update statistics process>

These spids are non-blocking and do not hamper any other processes on the system.
