Symptom

Table is dropped then recreated when the table partition is altered (e.g., creating a new partition or deleting an existing one) instead of generating the alter table partitioning_clause syntax.

For example, SAP PowerDesigner should generate:
alter table tablename
add partition;
to add a new partition and
alter table tablename
drop partition;
to drop a table partition.
