Symptom
You want to delete master data or transactional data, but you cannot find the option to do so.
Environment
- SAP Business ByDesign
- SAP Cloud for Customer
Cause
Master data is the data that is used over and again without any changes for a longer period of time. It is the core data that is essential for operations in a specific business or business unit. Master data can be an attribute, text or hierarchy — e.g. Accounts, Contacts, Products, Materials, etc.
Transactional data is the data that cannot be changed; this data is created in SAP as a result of a business user completing a business transaction, such as creating a sales quote, creating a process order, creating an opportunity etc. This type of data can be reversed or canceled, but is usually not changeable.
Transactional data depends on master data. Before transactional data is executed in the system, proper master data validations are carried out in the background. So deletion of these, leads to severe inconsistencies in the system, and as such is not supported.
Resolution
- Master Data: If you don't intend to use the master data further, you can mark it as Obsolete / Not Active / Blocked.
- Transactional Data: Reverse or cancel the documents from the UI only, depending on the transaction status.
You also have the option to use the Data Protection and Privacy work centre tools.
