2185347 - Lumira Error: 'Could not load the details for the SAP Business Warehouse connections'

Symptom

  • Unable to select an SAP BW System.
  • List of SAP BW Systems empty in Lumira.
  • When attempting to connect to SAP BW in Lumira, it displays an error message.
  • After selecting the connection "Download from SAP Business Warehouse" in Lumira, it displays the message:

"Could not load the details for the SAP Business Warehouse connections. Ensure that SAP Logon is installed on the system and has SAP Business Warehouse connections defined."

Environment

  • SAP Lumira Desktop 1.27 and above
  • SAP Logon
  • SAP Business Warehouse

Reproducing the Issue

  2. In "Add new dataset" window, select the data source: "Download from SAP Business Warehouse", and click "Next"

    It then displays the message:

  3. After clicking "OK", the list of SAP BW Systems is empty.

SAP Lumira - No SAP BW Systems.png

Cause

  • When selecting the data source: "Download from SAP Business Warehouse" with "Local BW System" SAP Lumira looks for the file: saplogon.ini, which contains the list of defined SAP Systems. If the file: saplogon.ini is not found, then it displays the error message, and no list of SAP Systems can be displayed since there is nothing defined.

  • The following are the possible reasons the file: saplogon.ini cannot be found
    • The application: SAP Logon, was not installed on the local computer
    • No SAP Systems have been defined in SAP Logon
    • SAP Logon 7.4 was installed with Netweaver Business Client
    • The file: saplogon.ini, is not in any of the location Lumira look for the file.

  • When selecting the data source: "Download from SAP Business Warehouse" with "SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform" SAP Lumira cannot connect to the Central Management Server (CMS)

Resolution

  • When using "Local BW System" to see a list of SAP Systems in Lumira, verify each of the following potential cause:

    • SAP Logon not installed
      • If the SAP Logon / GUI is not installed on the local computer, then install the SAP Logon.
      • SAP Logon is the application in which you define the SAP Systems, this is why it is required to be installed.

    • No SAP Systems have been defined in SAP Logon
      • Open the SAP Logon, and if there is no SAP System entries, then add the SAP Systems you want to connect to.

    • Unable to find the file: saplogon.ini, which contains the SAP Systems information.
      • Lumira looks for the saplogon.ini file in the following path, in the following order:
        • Environment Variable: SAPLOGON_INI_FILE
        • Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAPLogon\Options\PathConfigFilesLocal
        • User App Data (APPDATA), which is usually C:\Users\<USER NAME>\AppData\Roaming\SAP\Common
        • System Root (SYSTEMROOT), which is usually C:\Windows
        • Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAPLogon\ConfigFilesLastUsed\ConnectionConfigFile
        • Java library path (Set by -Djava.library.path or Set to PATH in Windows)

      • Search for the file saplogon.ini file on your computer, and ensure it is copied in the directory SAP Lumira read.
      • Also, confirm where the SAP Logon actually save the SAP Systems information, and ensure it is in one of the path Lumira read.
      • Steps to verify where the SAP Logon stores the SAP Systems Information are described in the SAP Knowledge Base Article  2185278

    • SAP Logon 7.4 was installed with Netweaver Business Client (NWBC).
      • When SAP Logon 7.4 is installed with NWBC, it does not create saplogon.ini file to store the SAP System information.
      • Installing SAP Logon 7.4 with NWBC is not supported at this point.
      • For more detailed information, and workaround, see the SAP Knowledge Base Article 2180115

  • When using "SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform" Ensure SAP Lumira can connect to the Central Management Server via the Name Server Port and Request Port
    • For more information refer to the SAP Business Intelligence Platform Administrator Guide section "8.14.1.3 The CMS uses two ports

  • Note: There is currently no plans to enhance Lumira Desktop to leverage the SAP Logon 7.4 new xml file format where the SAP System connection information are found. The suggestion is to use the Managed OLAP connections stored on the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform, instead of the local connection.
