2193394 - INPUT-OS-USER-PASSWORDS: " com.sap.sdt.tools.sapcontrolws.SapSystemInstance.getInstanceNumber() of a null object loaded from local variable 'instance'"

Symptom

The following error occurs in the phase INPUT-OS-USER-PASSWORDS during a Java stack upgrade/update with SUM(Software Update Manager).

May 20, 2015 4:13:12 PM [Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sap.sdt.tools.sapcontrolws.SapSystemInstance.setHttpsProtocol(java.lang.String) of a null object loaded from local variable 'instance'.


For some cases, the error message may like the below.

No active instance is found running on host:.
