2193558 - SAPup.exe cannot be started in SUM Extraction step


You are using SUM (Software Update Manager) on Windows Operating System to perform the system update/upgrade. In Extraction step, the following error occurs:

Unable to execute the SDT request ABAP operation extract on hostname SAPSSA21 instance 00
Extraction of the ABAP upgrade request ABAP has failed
Error from unit observer
Tool connector failed with .
Start of SAPup failed: OS process 'C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\bin\SAPup.exe stdout=C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\log\SAPup.out rootdir=C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap uaport=4240' start failed. Could not start 'C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\bin\SAPup.exe stdout=C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\log\SAPup.out rootdir=C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap uaport=4240' in path 'C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\bin'. Details: CreateProcess error=14001,
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.
Please see the application event log for more detail.

In the Windows event log, you may find the below entry:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\SAPUpgrade\SUM\abap\bin\SAPup.exe". Dependent AssemblyMicrosoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

The SUM is stuck.
