2199714 - Error 4208 DUMP Transaction to a dump device is not allowed while the trunc log on chkpt option is enabled - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • When performing a backup to a file, using the command like 'dump tran  <db_name> TO "/dev/tran.dmp" ', ASE returns error 4208:
    Msg 4208, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'ASE', Line 1:
    DUMP TRANsaction to a dump device is not allowed while the trunc. log on chkpt. option is enabled. 
    Disable the option with sp_dboption, then use DUMP DATABASE, before trying again.

  • The same error may also be found in the ASE errorlog:
    server Error: 4208, Severity: 16, State: 1
