2206212 - Negative values in substring() give invalid parameter error - SAP IQ

Symptom

When a user uses the substring function with negative 'start' or 'length' value in IQ 16.0, an error occurs whereas it works well in the old IQ versions like 15.x.

eg)

select substring('abcdef', 5, -2)

==>

Function 'substr' has invalid parameter '3' ('-2')
SQLCODE=-1090, ODBC 3 State="08004"
