2207314 - DOES_INSTALLATION_EXIST: MaxDB Software must be installed before this class can be instantiated

During the installation of a SAP NetWeaver based system, using Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM Tool SAP Note 1680045),
an error occurs in the phase "Define parameters" when entering the mount points for the MaxDB RDBMS:

"SAP Business Suite 7i 2013 Support Release 2 > EHP3 for SAP SCM 7.0 ABAP Support Release 2 > MaxDB
 > SAP Systems > Application Server ABAP > Standard System > Standard System
 (Last error reported by the step: Error during execution of command identifier 'DOES_INSTALLATION_EXIST' :
 MaxDB Software must be installed before this class can be instantiated!)"

The current step of sapinst is:

Please note that a similar error message 'DOES_INSTALLATION_EXIST' is explained in SAP Note
1888636 - Error "Could not find the main class: com.sap.sdb.core.main.cmd.SdbCmdMain" during the Installation
but the installation scenario is different and so is the solution!
