Symptom
- PDF document shows a different font.
- Wrong font displayed in the PDF document when using Open Type Font.
- When exporting a report from Crystal Reports to PDF format, and using an Open Type Font on the report, like MyRiad Pro, the PDF document generated use a different font.
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports 2013
- SAP Crystal Reports 2016
- SAP Crystal Reports 2020
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
- Format a Database Field, or Text Object to use an Open Type Font (OFT), like: MyRiad Pro
- Export report to PDF format.
- The text in the generated PDF document displays in a different font.
- In Adobe Reader, when looking at the Document Properties of the PDF document, it does not show the font we used on the report.
Cause
- Open Type Fonts (OTF) are not supported fonts when exporting to PDF format. Only True Type Fonts (TTF) are supported.
- Since the Open Type Fonts are not supported to be embedded in PDF, Crystal Reports substitutes the fonts with the default True Type Font like: Arial. This is why the generated PDF document use a different font.
Resolution
- In Crystal Reports, update the report to use True Type Fonts (TTF) instead of Open Type Fonts (OTF)
