2215761 - Error ORA-22858 modifying column data type to CLOB - SAP PowerDesigner

Data type of an Oracle table column is modified to CLOB.
PowerDesigner generates an ALTER TABLE table_name MODIFY column_name statement.
Executing the script generated by PowerDesigner leads to error "ORA-22858 - invalid alteration of datatype".
The alter.sql file must drop then create the table again.
