2233783 - Date Field Format in People Profile

Symptom

  • Month is displayed with letters instead of numbers
  • In People Profile the date fields display with a format of MMM dd, yyyy or dd MMM, yyyy
  • Manually entering a different format still results in MMM dd, yyyy or dd MMM, yyyy being displayed

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central: Employee Data Import
  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central: People Profile

Resolution

  • This is behavior is by design.
  • In People Profile the date fields have an expected date format of MMM dd, yyyy for en_US and dd MMM, yyyy for en_GB.
  • You can either select the date from the calendar icon or type the date.

Dates can be entered manually in any of the following fomats and will then be auto corrected to MMM dd, yyyy:

  • MMM dd, yyyy - For month it will populate with the first three letters of the month (e.g. Jan, Feb, Mar…). For the day and year only numbers are used.
    • In this format, the system accepts the following format for the month : Mmm (ex: Jan, Feb, Mar).  The use of all capital letters can throw an invalid format.(ex: JAN, FEB, MAR)
  • MMddyyyy - Only numbers
  • yyyyMMdd - Only numbers
  • MMddyy - Only numbers

Note: the date format may vary depending on the language selected. For some languages you should use the date format as "ddMMyyyy", "yyMMdd" and "ddMMyy"; however, it is important to always use double digits to populate the day, month and year information.

When using a wrong date format on the date field (e.g. MMdyyyy), the system may not recognize it and select a date not intended for the user.

For example, if you populate the date field with the date format as “yyyyddMM”, “yyddMM”, “yyMMdd” or any other date formats that are not supported for the selected language (Using US language):

The system will try to estimate a date when saving the changes or will throw an error:

To correctly save the changes in the date field, please use one of the supported date formats above or select the date via the calendar icon.
