2239497 - "Incorrect syntax near '-'" connecting to MSSQL using HANA Smart Data Access

Symptom

When using HANA Smart Data Access connected to a Microsoft SQL Server database, which contains a hyphen (-) in the database name, and attempting to display the content of a virtual table you receive the error:

Error: SAP DBTech JDBC: [403]: internal error: Error opening the cursor for the remote database 
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '-'. for query....


An error similar to the below can also be found in the indexserver trace file:

[110868]{306695}[43/-1] 2015-08-21 14:51:57.758396 e FedTrace         
odbcaccess.cpp(03752) : ODBC error: connected: 1 state: 42000 code: 102 [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '-'.
