2241291 - Custom Crystal Report Cannot be Opened in ByDesign

You have created a custom formatted report (this can simply be a copy of a standard report) containing formulas in Crystal Reports. In Crystal Reports you can open the report without issues. When you try to open the report in your ByDesign system you get an error message.

1. In the respective Work Center go to Reports > List
2. Open the respective report (for example Financial Statements - Two Years - Print Layout)
3. Edit your selection if applicable
4. Click OK
5. You receive an error message that starts with: JRC returned an error: […]

Many financial reports contain formulas, so when a copy of these reports is created the JRC (Java Rendering Configuration) is unable to map these formula fields in the copied report and hence it fails. The report might work in Crystal Report Designer, but will not work from the ByDesign Interface as the JRC links the ByDesign formatted report to the Crystal Report.

You will have to create a new report similar to the one you want to copy and add the formulas manually in your custom report.
