2261583 - Error 5871 "Invalid pool size of %dk (%d buffers) encountered..." when trying to create a 32K pool - SAP ASE for BS

Symptom

  • You have a 16K page server and you have created a named cache which you want to dedicate to log. So all the space is allocated to 16K pools.
  • You want to replace the 16K pools by 32K pools, but the sp_poolconfig command fails with error :

Msg 5871, Level 16, State 1:
Server '<servername>', Procedure 'sp_do_poolconfig', Line 1160:
Invalid pool size of 0k (0 buffers) encountered for the 16k pool in cache log_cache. Buffer pools must have a minimum total size of 4096k or 25 buffers, whichever is greater.
Msg 5899, Level 16, State 1:
Server '<servername>', Procedure 'sp_do_poolconfig', Line 1160:
The value of the 'max memory' parameter (2097152) defined in the configuration file is not high enough to set the other parameter values specified in the configuration file.
