2275706 - Timeslice error: system call has not responded - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • An ASE transaction may abort with a timeslice, and the accompanying stack trace contains the error message:

    A system call has not responded.

  • Or the following message may be repeated in the ASE log:

    kernel Spid # has exceeded its timeout value while issuing a write for virtual device ## ('<device name>').
    A system call has not responded for XXX seconds, and Adaptive Server will be impacted until it returns. Contact your operating system vendor for assistance.

  • It may be accompanied by messages stating:

    The internal timer is not progressing
