Symptom
As part of Intelligent Services, Succession Planning now handles the following:
- An event is published when a successor is added to a position: MDF Position, Legacy Position, Role-Person. This event is called New Successor.
- Notifications are triggered and sent to the Succession Planner, if they occur for an employee who is a successor for the following EC events: Employee Termination, Employee Time Off

Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Intelligent Services
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
- SAP SuccessFactors Succession and Development
Reproducing the Issue
Use Case 1:
- An employee who is a successor leaves the organization (event „unpaid leave or paid leave“) and adaptations may need to be made in Succession Planning
- The responsible succession planner now receives a notification in his Notifications tray:
Use Case 2:
- An employee who is a successor goes on leave of absence (event „unpaid leave or paid leave”)
- The succession planner may need to make adaptations, e.g. if the person was nominated as emergency successor and would thus not be available short-term
- If leave of abence (an event such as Paid leave or Unpaid leave) is recorded for a successor, the responsible succession planner receives a notification in his Notifications tray:
Cause
- Succession Planners are actively informed when nominated successors will leave the organization (employee termination) or are taking Leave of Absence (employee time-off)
- When a person gets nominated as successor, customers can use the event being triggered in this case for custom-tailored updates / notifications in other components
Resolution
- Intelligent Services, changes publish as events such as Employee Hire, Change in Manager, Employee Time Off, and more
- You can publish events from any SAP SuccessFactors application, and subscribe to these events using SAP SuccessFactors or third party applications
- Follow the implementation guide links below to configure and set up the Intelligent Services
Note: The event(s) are triggered for all users who have succession planning permission for a position to which the employee was nominated too.
