2280022 - How to collect a HTTP archive (HAR) file and Console Log file in SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • Support requested either a HAR log file and a Console log file, or both.
  • An HTTP archive (HAR) file (Chrome or Edge Browser developer tools network trace) AND a console log file are required to help troubleshoot system errors and performance issues in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), especially when SAP cannot reproduce the issue.

Note: See What information do I need to provide when opening a case for SAP Analytics Cloud? to help understand what our team needs to expedite the process.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Resolution

If support has requested a HAR and the Console log files, provide both files as follows.

Note: Please do not perform a performance trace simultaneously (referenced in 2413393 - How to record timelines in Chrome Developer Tools). Please run them separately.

  1. Open the Chrome or Edge Browser Developer Tools from the menu, under Settings and more (...) > More tools > Developer tools, or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + I, or even by hitting the F12 function key on your keyboard when the browser is in focus and the SAC web client is open.
  2. Go to the Network Tab and make sure that the circle in the top-left corner is red. If it is gray, click it to start recording.
  3. Add/open Console tab by typing the ESC key or through the three vertical dots on the top right menu, and select Show console drawer.
  4. Clear the Network and Console log by clicking the "no" circles (the circles with the diagonal line through them).
  5. Click the Preserve log checkbox.
  6. Reproduce the issue or performance problem by performing all the steps when the issue or error is observed. Note: We recommend recording a video together with the HAR trace.
  7. When you have finished reproducing the issue, click the top left recording button to stop recording.
  8. Right-click the requests area in the Network tab and click Export sanitized (arrow pointing down).

    Download HAR file.png

For Chrome before version 130, Save all as HAR with content:

    save_har.png

  9. Right-click the requests area in the Console tab and click Save as...:

  10. Attach the HAR and Console log traces to your support case.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • If a request is expected to time out, you must allow it to finish timing out before stopping the HAR recording. If you stop recording before the request completes, the resulting HAR file will be incomplete, and Technical Support will not be able to use it. For example, if a request has a 5-minute timeout, wait the full 5 minutes before clicking Stop recording. Stopping earlier will exclude the timed-out request from the HAR log and may corrupt the file.
  • Keep the file as concise as possible. Capturing only the error under investigation. This ensures that our Support Engineers can focus on the relevant requests to troubleshoot your issue, allowing a smoother support experience.

TIPS:

  • Add -pusher to the filter field to remove irrelevant entries to help review requests, responses, messages, and errors/exceptions in the HAR trace file.
