2283698 - Error: You cannot change the data in Product Category Hierarchy ID. Refresh the screen and try again. If the problem persists, report an case.

You would like to maintain Product Category for the assigned Individual Material in the Fixed Asset - Master Data.

When you try to select the Product Category ID, you get the error message : You cannot change the data in Product Category Hierarchy ID. Refresh the screen and try again. If the problem persists, report an case.

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Fixed Assets work center
2. Fixed Assets view
3. Search for fixed asset, click on Edit and select Master Data
4. Navigate to sub-tab Individual Material
5. Maintain Product Category or change the Product Category

Error message : You Cannot Change The Data In Product Category Hierarchy ID appears.

The fixed asset in question was not created via procurement process (i.e purchase order, goods receipt, invoice). Instead the asset was created manually or via journal entry voucher.

Since there are no associated documents (purchase order, goods receipt) - the Individual Material assigned to the asset does not have a product category. Due to this - in the Fixed Asset - Master Data, the Product Category is not displayed.

If an asset already has a Product Category assigned, the system does not allow changing the Product Category.

You will need to change the Product Category in the Individual Material screen.

1. Go to Fixed Asset work center
2. Select Reports view
3. Search for the report Fixed Assets - Master Data and Open
4. Enter the relevant parameter
5. Click on the Individual Material in the report
6. Select navigation as View Individual Material Overview
7. Click on Edit
8. Maintain Product Category
9. Click on Save and Close

Or

1. Go to Fixed Asset work center
2. Select Fixed Asset view
3. Search for the Fixed Asset
4. Click On Edit and Select Values
5. Navigate to Journal tab
6. Click on any Journal Entry ID
7. In the Journal Entry Screen, Click on the Individual Material. This will open the Individual Material view
8. Click on Edit
9. Maintain Product Category
10. Click on Save and Close.

NOTE: Ideally, the Product Category is used to derive the Fixed Asset Claas. Once the Fixed Asset is created in the system then you try to maintain the Product Category, makes no use for that Fixed Asset. In this case system will still allow you to Save the fixed asset.
