Symptom
This is a KBA highlighting a common pitfall regarding date/time data when importing via the system's Import Data Tool. A common issue is that the imported date/time field does not reflect the sytem's date/time preference as defined in Date Format Patterns, Locales and Preferences (See Also: KBAs referenced below). A common mistake is to match the time/date format with the preference of the system you are importing the data into. For example, a system utilising an English locale by default has the dd/mm/yyyy date format. Adopting this date format in the import file will result in errors.
Environment
Learning Management System (LMS)
Reproducing the Issue
- Download any of the Import Data Tool templates
- Populate as required
- Import File via Import Data function
Resolution
Regardless of the system's time/date preference (as defined in Date Format Patterns, Locales and Preferences), the import file needs to adhere to the US date/time format: mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss: AM/PM; where time is optional.
The system will then convert this value to the system's defined time/date preference during the import process.
