2288126 - How to modify a database table column type by specifying "<columntype>" in the items.xml

Symptom

To modify an existing database table column from VARCHAR2(255) to VARCHAR2(512) by simply modification explicitly specifying the value for the element in an attribute definition in *-items.xml file.

But it does not work.

The DB table column does not get updated after run a System Update.
