Symptom
When trying to set a field, say Gender, as mandatory in Manage Business Configuration the below error is displayed:
Field gender is mapped to the required element gender in the profile. An enabled field of a HRIS Element must not be mapped to a mandatory standard element. Set the standard element to not mandatory or disable the field gender.

Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Manage Business Configuration
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Admin Centre > Tool Search > Manage Business Configuration.
- Update a field, Gender in this case, to be Mandatory.
- Error is displayed and restricts setting the field to Mandatory.

Resolution
- Navigate to Admin Centre > Tool Search > Manage Business Configuration.
- Expand the Employee Profile and then select Standard Elements.
- Scroll down and select the field, Gender in this case.
- Set the field not to be Mandatory.
