2293865 - "Call to Package splitter failed. Return code: 1" during Table Splitting Preparation with 70SWPM SP10

Symptom

You are doing a Table Splitting Preparation with 70SWPM SP10 and have an issue like this:

Software Provisioning Manager

Error: Call to Package splitter failed. Return code: 1

Then, in the sapinst_dev.log file, you see the following error message:

sapinst_dev.log

Execution of the command "<location>/PRETABSPLIT/sapjvm_4/sapjvm_4/bin/java -classpath split.jar -d64 com.sap.inst.split.PackageSplitter -strDirs Split -tableFile Split/package_splitter.txt -str -outputDir Split" finished with return code 1.

Output:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/sap/inst/split/PackageSplitter has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 50.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 48.0
