Symptom
Notification templates and labels include <br> for line breaks, but line breaks are not inserted.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management Systems - LMS
Reproducing the Issue
When editing labels for notifications:
- In the Learning Admin UI, click on the References icon in the upper right corner.
- Then click Geography > Labels.
- Search for the label to be edited. (Hint: This is found in 'Edit labels' on the notification template).
- Edit the label text and use carriage returns (Enter button) to insert new lines.
- Apply changes.
- An error displays, "The label value should not contain carriage returns or new line characters. If you need separate lines please use <br> instead."
- Update the text with <br> to insert new lines.
- Apply changes.
- Send notification, and note that there are no line breaks inserted.
When editing notification templates:
- From the Learning Admin UI, access System Admin > Configuration > Notification templates.
- Search for the template to be edited.
- Click the edit icon.
- Add <br> into the message body where line breaks should be inserted.
- Save changes.
- Send notification and note that there are no line breaks inserted.
Cause
Incorrect formatting.
Resolution
To correctly display <br> tags as new line in the notification email, the following steps are to be followed:
- Access Learning Admin UI.
- Navigate to System Admin > Configuration > Notification Templates.
- Search for the template you're having the issue with.
- Click the edit icon to edit the notification template.
- Click the 'Messages' tab.
- In the BODY section of the notification template, add <html> tag at the beginning of the message body and </html> tag at the end of the message body.
