2309202 - It is not Possible to Maintain an Account Name with More than 40 Characters

Symptom

We get an error when you try to maintain a name with more than 40 characters in the field Name inside an account.

Environment

SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Customer workcenter.
  2. Go to the Accounts view.
  3. Click New.
  4. Create an account with more than 40 characters in the field Name.

Result: You get the error: 'Data entered for attribute ORGANISATION-NAME-FIRST_LINE_NAME exceeds its maximum length' or 'Data entered in the attribute PERSON_NAME_GIVEN-NAME exceeds its maximum length'.

Cause

The restriction of 40 characters in the Account name is a standard behavior in Customer OnDemand systems.

The reason for this behavior is that this field is used in other business areas (where the field is also restricted to 40 characters).

For Example: when you create an Opportunity for this Account, the Account Name field will be also displayed in the Opportunity and this field is also restricted to 40 characters. This also applies to many other documents and restrictions in external systems.

Resolution

You can use the standard fields Additional Name 2 and Additional Name 3. You may have to add those fields using Adapt -> Edit Master Layout.
