2310060 - SUM error on Windows: "OS user password does not work, please reenter:"

Symptom

While performing an upgrade or software update using Software Update Manager tool, the process fails with an error in a preparation phase. Affected phases include PREP_PRE_CHECK/PROFREAD and PREP_EXTRACT/SUMASK. Other phases could be affected as well. On SUM UI, an error message appears:

In the corresponding phase-specific log files, messages such as following can be found:

  • 4EETQ399 Dialogue validator 'OSValidator' failed with 'OS user password does not work, please reenter: System error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
  • 4WETQ399 Dialogue validator 'OSValidator' failed with 'OS user password does not work, please reenter: System error: The user name or password is incorrect.
