2312068 - SUM - RENAME-JC-J fails with: could not rename JC01

Symptom

Software Update Manager (SUM) fails on a Microsoft Windows environment during release upgrade from 6.4x/7.0x to 7.1x or higher SAP NetWeaver release during step RENAME-JC-J with the following error:

 <SUM>\RENAME-JC-J_0x.LOG

[Error ]: Cannot rename f:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC01 to f:/usr/sap/<SID>/J01: java.io.File.renameTo() method returned false.
[Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: com.sap.sdt.util.diag.DiagException: Could not rename f:/usr/sap/<SID>/JC01 to f:/usr/sap/<SID>/J01. You must close all opened Windows Explorer windows and repeat this step.

Closing all opened Windows Explorer windows sometimes is not sufficient to resolve the error.
