2315186 - Server won't start with error "NT operating system error 5" and "Access is denied" - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • An ASE server on Windows can't start with permission error on shared memory:

kernel Allocating a shared memory segment of size 183115776 bytes.
kernel NT operating system error 5 in module ’winx64\ksource\blkmem\osmntmmap.c' at line 605: Access is denied.
kernel os_create_region: CreateFileMapping for file 'D:\sybase\SY1\ASE-16_0\SY1.krg' on mapping 'Global\SY1.krg' failed.
kernel kbcreate: couldn't create kernel region.
kernel kistartup: could not create shared memory

  • The error can occur when ASE is automatically restarted via Windows Service or if starting manually using RUN_Server file (RUN_servername.bat)
