Symptom
Installation of a new SAP system on SAP ASE using Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM) aborts in step syb_step_setup_db_server (Setup Database Server) with:
Last error reported by the step: Assertion failed: Unable to set up ASE server.
Refer to trace file sapinst_dev.log for further information"
Further evaluating the file 'sapinst_dev.log' shows lines similar to these (you may have to scroll up quite a few lines in sapinst_dev.log, starting from the end):
ERROR 2016-05-10 03:47:02.520 (root/sapinst) [CInstallerCallBackImpl.cpp:259] id=ind-rel.ind-os.ind-db.assertionFailed errno=CJS-00030
Assertion failed: Unable to set up ASE server. Refer to trace file sapinst_dev.log for further information.
and preceeding this error you will find:
Building SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise 'SID':
