Resolution
Document with iContent URL:
A user cannot access the iContent URL directly if it is not assigned to him/her.
For example, let's assume a content object with ID: "CONTENT" is linked to an item with ID: "ITEM". Let's assume a user knows the URL for the content object and if this "ITEM" is not assigned to a user account, he/she cannot launch the course directly with the URL as it would warn the user as "This learning item is not assigned to you or associated to your Catalog".
This is as per the design, which would prevent anyone from launching the contents if they do not have access to it.
If the item is assigned to the same user, then they can launch the URL directly as long as the item in their learning plan.
What should be the Location Value:
- The Location should have the complete URL of the document and should not have the iContent URL. For example, it could have the value as "http://www.pdf995.com/samples/pdf.pdf"(a test PDF link in the open internet)-this should be external URL and if you are populating it with iContent URL, then the user should have access to it (the content should be created as Content Object, linked to an Item and should be assigned to the user account, which is not an easy/perfect way of allowing access to a document).
- The best way to tackle this is by uploading the documents in your servers (your Intranet or SFTP or a portal that is open to your employees within the company network from where you could access documents directly and update the Location field with that URL. This is the way the Documents are used with the Items or Classes.
