Symptom
When upgrading the SAP system with Software Update Manager (SUM), during the configuration step PREP_INSTALL/SHDINST_DB_PREP, you get the following errors:
Checks after phase PREP_INSTALL/SHDINST_DB_PREP were negative!
Last error code set: Process E:\usr\sap\ED8\SUM\abap\bin/SAPuptool exited with 20, see 'C:\usr\sap\<SID>\SUM\abap\log\SQLSTMTSTD.OUT' for details.
The results in the file SQLSTMTSTD.OUT shows:
FATAL ERROR: DBSL error 99 (db code 15151):
Cannot alter the role 'db_ddladmin', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
SAPup> Process with PID 9652 terminated with status 20 at 20160511195920!
Or:
Cannot alter the role 'db_owner', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
This may also fail with other commands like sp_grantdbaccess, sp_addrolemember, etc.
