Symptom
When a user without Succession Approval permissions nominates a successor to a position, the nomination goes directly to “Approved” status, without a user with Succession Approval permissions approving the nomination.
Environment
SuccessFactors Succession Management (MDF Positions)
Cause
This could be caused by any of the following:
- Instance does not have Formless Nomination Approval Workflow enabled;
- There is another permission role granting Succession Approval permission to the user;
- Permissions are not correctly configured for the “Position” object.
Resolution
See below the solution for each specific cause:
Instance does not have Formless Nomination Approval Workflow enabled
Formless Nomination Approval Workflow should be enabled for the instance if you wish to use it. SuccessFactors Cloud Product Support can enable the option in the back-end, but the customer would be responsible for setting up the required permissions. If the customer needs assistance on configuring the permissions, it is recommended that they engage an Implementation Partner.
There is another permission role granting Succession Approval permission to the user
Review the permission roles that grant Succession Approval permission to make sure the user is not in the granted population or the position for which he is trying to nominate is not included in the target population. After determining the permission role, either remove the Permission from the Permission Role or remove the user from the granted population.
Permissions are not correctly configured for the “Position” object.
To solve this, you should grant at least “View Permissions” for the “Position” object.
- Go to Manage Permission Roles > select the permission role in context.
- Click "Permission..." > select "Miscellaneous Permissions" tab (the Position object can be configured to be in another tab) > enable at least "View Current" for the Position object > click Finished.
- Then, under "3. Grant this role to...", click "Edit granting" > make sure that the position target population is the same as the employee target population.
- Save Changes.
Please see KBA-2445215 in the reference section for further details on configuring the position object defintion.
