2334112 - Positions Not Displayed in Field Dropdown List via Take Action

Symptom

Some positions (job codes) are not displayed in the position field dropdown picklist when managers attempt to update Job Information from the Manager Self-Service UI (MSS), Take Action. However, an administrator may be able to see all job codes (positions) in the field drop down list. The positions are set up correctly.

Reproducing the Issue

Logged in or proxied as a manager:

1. Navigate to a user Employment Information

2. Choose "Take Action"

3. Select "Job Information"

4. Attempt to use the dropdown picklist for Position (Job Code)

5. Notice some expected positions are not displayed, although others are displayed

Cause

The reason the positions are not displayed is due to an incorrect RBP (role based permission) setting for the role associated with the manager's permissions. In this case, the position the manager expects to see displayed in a "higher grade" position. The RBP setting allowing the manager to view higher grade positions is not enabled for the permission role associated with the manager.

Resolution

To correct the problem, enable "View Higher Grades" in the permission role associated with the manager. This setting is found in the Employee Data section of the permission settings in the HR Actions category. Set the appropriate view/edit settings and save.

The HR Actions section controls mainly who has access to the Update Employee Records page for actions defined in the Succession Data Model.

View Higher Grades - Defines this permission:

This option defines if a manager can view an employee's job classification if it is higher than the manager's.
To restrict a manager’s view, leave the permissions unchecked. Make sure that the job classifications are assigned to a pay grade, and have a paygradeLevel maintained. When the manager goes to the Update Employee Records page for Job Information, the list of job classifications in the dropdown is limited to those whose paygradeLevel is less than the manager’s. Note that this function is limited to this page; it does not have any effect on the Job Info History page.
