2336837 - Wrong Higher Level Position When you Add Lower Level Position in Position Org Chart

Symptom

When adding a lower level position via the Position Org Chart (Add Lower Level Position), the new position receives an incorrect manager/higher level position.

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

Reproducing the Issue

  • Navigate to >Company Info   >Position Org Chart
  • Select a Position
  • Select ‘Add Lower-Level Position’

Cause

In the business rule for ‘Rule for Defining Copy-Relevant Position Fields’ you have defined a Higher Level Position.

This is not recommended. The Higher Level Position should be determined by the Leading Hierarchy.

Resolution

  • Navigate to ‘Position Management Settings’ in Admin Centre.

  • Navigate to the ‘UI Customizing’ tab:

  • Here you can define a rule for copying position:

  • If you view this rule, you can see it defines the ‘High-Level Position’ . This is the cause of the issue.

  • To resolve the issue you should remove the above highlighted condition from the rule. The ‘Higher-Level Position’ will then be selected by the Position Hierarchy (you do not need to define the ‘Higher-Level Position’ in the rule).
