2338272 - SMP 3.0 "File name too long" error on WIndows Server 2008/2012

Symptom

In an environment where SMP 3.0 is on Win 2008/2012 servers. When one upgrades to a new SP level they would normally see a directory that appears to be a backup of the current version (before upgrade): C:\SAP\MobilePlatform3\backup-server-3.0.x.x

When they try to copy this directory to another drive or send it to the Recycle Bin or Compress it I get error message from the Windows OS that

"The path to the file or directory is too long" and the action is not completed.

Environment

SMP 3.0 installed on a Wndows Server 2008/2012 environment.
