2341773 - What are the allowed characters for file names on Icontent server?

Symptom

Users can sometimes encounter an error 404 when launching in LMS a content hosted in Icontent. This KBA is applicable under the following conditions:

  • the exact same content is used in another item and the other item can be launched without issues
  • the name of the file uploaded to Icontent server contains special character(s)

Reproducing the Issue

  • Login to the LMS
  • try launching the course
  • user will be unable to launch the content and might receive an Error 404

Cause

Some characters are not allowed on icontent server and can lead to such issues if the name of the file contains special characters.

Resolution

  • In order to resolve such issues, the Admin needs to make sure to NEVER  use any if the below characters in a URI syntax: ";" | "/" | "?" | ":" | "@" | "&" | "=" | "+" | "$" | "," | "Ü" | "Ä" | "Ö" |
  • it is also recommended to not use any of the following characters with IIS: "<" | ">" | "#" | "%" | "<" | ">" | "{" | "}" | "|" | "\" | "^" | "[" | "]" | "`"
