2345373 - Server hung due to a timeslice error - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The ASE errorlog shows the following errors and the timeslice error:

Error: 21, Severity: 20, State: 1
WARNING - Fatal Error 714 occurred at mm dd yyyy hh:mm AM.  Please note the error and time, and contact a user with System Administrator (SA) authorization.

Error: 714, Severity: 20, State: 2
Unable to locate a procedure cache memory control descriptor for memory '0x0' allocated by process 151.

Current process (0x47bd044d) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0000000080420fc0 (mem__pagesfree+0x20), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0000000000000008)

timeslice -2001, current process infected at ffffffff7c73916c (atomic_cas_32+0x4)

  • The stack trace following the "Infected with signal 11" error includes modules:

mem_procmem_lastchance_cleanup
_thr_slot_offset

  • The first timeslice error was on sp_helpdb SECURITY.
     
  • Four more timeslices were on the SELECT statement:
