2345872 - FTPS communication channel terminates with "Unexpected reply code 536"

Symptom

File Adapter is used to connect to FTPS server. After importing the certificate chain in SAP Process Integration/Orchestration (PI/PO)system, the following error occurs during message processing:

Delivery of the message to the application using connection File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.lib.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: FTPEx: Unexpected reply codeSecurity mechanism not supported.

If the detailed tracing for File adapter is activated, the following reply from the FTPS server can be found in the defaultTrace:

ftp server returns reply '536 Security mechanism not supported'

or

ftp server returns reply '534 Policy requires SSL'
