Symptom
- A field has the same values with upper and lower case character(s) for example "Value" and "value".
- After grouping on a database field in Crystal Reports, only one of the upper/lower case values are shown in the Group Header.
- Note: Image and data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports 2011
- SAP Crystal Reports 2013
- SAP Crystal Reports 2016
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a report based on a data base that has values that are different based on the case senitivity. For example: "Value" and "value".
- Create a group on the database field.
- Observe that only one group is displayed when expecting multiple groups for case sensitive value. For example: It only creates a group for "Value" and "value".
Cause
- This is normal because by default Crystal Reports is not case sensitive when grouping.
Resolution
- To set a report to be case sensitive in Crystal Reports, check the option "Database Server is Case-Insensitive"
- In Crystal Reports, open the report.
- Under the menu "File", select "Report Options..."
- In the "Report Options" window, uncheck the option "Database Server is Case-Insensitive"
- Save the report.
