Symptom
You are able to record and release times retroactively, although the relevant accounting period is already closed. You don't even receive any error message.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Home work center.
- Under Self-Services select the Self-Services Overview.
- Select Edit Time Sheet.
- Enter time for a time frame for which the accounting period is closed.
- Select Save.
- Select Release.
- The time is Released.
Cause
You have recorded time type Actual hours worked without reference to any project. Such recordings don't affect projects and accounting. Thus no error with respect to closed accounting period or closed project occurs for any date. Also approvals and postings are not prevented.
Resolution
This is the expected system behavior. If a Time Recording is not affecting posting to accounting, then it is possible to Save and Release this recording. This will be reflected in Time Accounts. However, as long as the recording is approval relevant, it will not be activated unless the manager approves it.
