Symptom

During the upgrade of an SAP NetWeaver AS Java system, the following error occurs during phase CHECK-PREVIOUS-SUM-EXECUTION:

Aug 8, 2016 7:44:42 PM [Info ]: Execution file is D:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\global\security\data\sumExecutions.xml
Aug 8, 2016 7:44:42 PM [Error ]: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file.
Aug 8, 2016 7:44:42 PM [Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sap.sdt.util.execution.SumExecution.getHashCode() of a null object loaded from local variable 'lastActiveExec'.
