1. Go to Outbound Logistic Control Work Center.
2. Go to Customer Demand View.
3. Find the demand XYZ.

Observe that Customer Demand XYZ has Delivery type as Shipment.

1. Go to Sales Order Work Center.
2. Go to Sales Order View.
3. Find the order XYZ.
4. Open it.
5. Select View All.
6. Navigate to Items tab.

Observe that Sales Order XYZ Fulfillment category as External.

Cause 1:

All Line Items belonging to a particular delivery group should have a common source of supply.

Even if one Line Item in Sales Order has a different external source of supply, the delivery type in Customer Demand will appear as Shipment.

This is the designed behavior.

Cause 2:

The delivery rule in the Sales Order is set to Single delivery - full quantity for all items. The Requested Date of one of the Line Items is different resulting in different Delivery Groups.

Therefore the Delivery Type in the Customer Demand will be set to Shipment and not Third-Party.

Please note that the Delivery Type is also Shipment if the ATP is not confirmed. In this case you need to ensure that the Complete Delivery Indicator in the Sales Order is not active and that the Delivery Rule is Multiple Deliveries.

Solution to cause 1:

Please maintain the same external source of supply for all Line items.

Ideally when we maintain Fulfillment category as External in a Sales Order, the Customer Demand Delivery type should be set as Third party.

Solution to cause 2:

Change the Delivery Rule of the Items to Multiple Deliveries in the Sales Order.

Save you changes.

The Delivery Type in the Customer Demand will change to Third-Party.
