2370281 - Nominations & Successors Portlet Permissions

Symptom

Is it possible to remove the options "Add" and "Edit" in the Nominations and Successors portlets?

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Succession Management
  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Profile/People Profile

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Admin Center
  2. Under Set User Permission, click "Manage Permission Roles"
  3. Select the target role, and click "Permission"
  4. Under Employee Data section, the Nomination  and Successors portlets do not have edit permission enabled:

  1. When accessing Employee Profile, these two portlets are still editable:

Resolution

  • The options "Add" (+ sign) and "Edit" (Pencil sign) in Nominations and Successors portlets are independent of portlet edit permission under Employee Data in RBP. These options are controlled by Succession Planning Permission, under Succession Planners in RBP.
  • In addition, when Talent Pool feature is enabled in the instance, the "Talent Pool Nomination" option is displayed in the Nominations portlet. And the "Add" option is controlled by the permission View Talent Pool nomination > Add/edit/delete Talent Pool nomination under Succession Planners in RBP.
  • Therefore, users with Succession Planning Permission and Add/edit/delete Talent Pool nominations will always see the "Add" and "Edit" options for their permission role's target population. However, the "Edit" option in Successors portlet is not controlled by a specific permission, and it will show when there are successors in the portlet.

Note 1: please note that editing or removing any of the permissions mentioned above, will not just impact the portlet but will also impact other parts of the Succession Management module. This is due to the fact that  Succession aims to keep data access consistent across all Succession features and tools.

  • The Nomination Portlet will show all nominations by default, unless the "Filter Current Nominations portlet data by "Succession Planning permissions" option is enabled in the Admin Center > Nominations Setup.
  • If this option is enabled, the portlet will filter the nominations and only display those nominations to Positions that are within the logged-in user's Succession Planning permissions. In other words, the logged-in user will only be able to see positions that are part of his Succession Planning permission's target population.
  • With "Allow succession planners to view successors on org chart nodes/position tile view" disabled and "Filter Current Nominations portlet data by Succession Planning permissions" enabled, the history icon will not be visible to users.
  • The Successor Portlet will show the successor nominations which apply to the users from the target population of the permission "Succession Management and Matrix Report permissions".
  • The Successor Portlet does not display a history icon.

Note 2: If a blank screen appears when editing a nomination via the Talent Card, this means there is a discrepancy between the user and positions target populations of the user and they do not have the position within their succession planning permissions. Please make sure both nomination permission and MDF position view permission are granted to the same permission role.
