2375006 - Error 806 followed by timeslice errors while shrinking database.Server hangs with high CPU usage. -SAP ASE

Symptom

  •  Error 806 is reported when ASE is shrinking a database via an 'alter database' command:

Error: 806, Severity: 21, State: 1
Could not find virtual page for logical page 330442831 in database '<database>'.
Warning: The internal timer is not progressing. If this message is generated multiple times, report to Sybase Technical Support and restart the server (alarminterval=-930).

  • After Error 806, many processes or tasks get a timeslice error:

timeslice -2001, current process infected at 0x1653ab4 (atomic_try+0x2)

  • ASE server hangs with high cpu usage.
  • New connections to ASE can not be created.
