2375407 - Position Tile: “The external name is made invisible in the current position configuration” message

When accessing the Position Tile, the following error message is displayed:

“Position object configuration: The external name is made invisible in the current position configuration and hence title cannot be provided to positions. Update the configuration to provide title for positions.”

This message can be displayed because of one of the following:

1. The user accessing the Position Tile does not have any permissions over the Position object;
2. The Position.externalName field has the visibility set as “Not Visible” in the position configuration. 

1. The logged-in user does not have any permissions over the Position object

If this is the case, you will also see the message “You don’t have necessary permissions to view existing positions. Contact your administrator”. For the steps on how to resolve this, you can access the KBA 2375416 - Position Tile: “You do not have the necessary permissions to view existing positions” message.

 

2. The Position.externalName field has the visibility set as “Not Visible” in the position configuration

To solve this issue, you need to change the visibility of the Position.externalName field to “Read-only” or “Editable”. To do so, you can follow below steps:

1. Go to Admin Center > Company Settings > Configure Object Definitions;
2. Select “Object Definition” in the first dropdown and “Position” in the second one;
3. Click “Take Action” > “Make Correction”, which should be available in the upper right corner of the page. You will notice that the object definition becomes editable;
4. Then, find the “externalName” field and click “Details”;
5. Change the “Visibility” attribute to “Read Only” or “Editable” > click “Finished”:

 

6. Save the changes.
