2393593 - Error MD511 when exploding BOM with phantom assembly although a BOM exists in S/4HANA system

Symptom

On S/4HANA system, a valid BOM is already maintained for a phantom material, but error message MD511 "Could not explode phantom assembly" still occurs when exploding BOM, e.g. in t-code MD11 or when running MRP:
