Symptom

Attempting to start the SQL Anywhere database service on Linux or Unix results in one of the following errors:

  • (SQL Anywhere:24546): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `path/filename', but failed: Failed to create file '/path/filename': No such file or directory
  • (SQL Anywhere:24546): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of `/path/filename', but failed: No such file or directory
