2410416 - Unclean shutdown of service instance with pid XXXXX

Symptom

You are about to start the indexserver by executing the following commands as part of a SYSTEM user password reset attempt.

/usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX/hdbenv.sh
/usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX/exe/hdbindexserver -resetUserSystem

However, you receive the following error message.

starting interacttive mode for resetting user SYSTEM...
unclean shutdown of service instance with pid XXXXX.
Aborted

If you stop the system,

/usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX>sapcontrol -nr xx -function StopSystem HDB 1000 500

any try to restart the service,

hostname:/usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX> /usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX/hdbenv.sh
hostname:/usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX> /usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX/exe/hdbnameserver

you may run into the error mentioned below.

An instance of this service is already running.
You should consider checking if the process with the id XXXX is running
and of type hdbnameserver. If you are sure that there is no instance alive
remove the file /usr/sap/<SID>/HDBXX/<hostname>/lock/hdbnameserver@32001.pid
and restart.
