2413673 - alter database command reports 5057 free space count error - ASE

Symptom

  • Want to reduce the log space allocated to the server
  • Running alter database command using "log off" option:

alter database <database>  log off <log>
go

  • The following error is reported in the ASE error log:

Msg 5057, Level 16, State 1:
Server '<server>', Line 1:
The free space counts for the log are incorrect as the amount of free space for the log (1611745840 pages, 3147942 MB) for database '<database>' is greater than the total log size (79027200, 154350 MB). Execute DBCC DBREPAIR(<database>, fixlogfreespace, scanlogchain [, 1]).
