Symptom

When importing Compensation Information data via Admin Center > Import Employee Data, the import fails with the following error message [Internal System error encountered while importing record]

Validate Import file data.png

Environment

Employee Central 2.0 - b1611

Cause

The root cause is due to one of the following reasons:

  1. Sequence Number field configuration on compInfo hris-element
  2. Compensation Info - Forward Propagation feature
  3. Import Batch Size
  4. Business Rule execution for Compensation Info Import

Resolution

The defects related to the 4 causes mentioned below are fixed in the b1702 release, which will be deployed to Preview in February and Production in March.

  • Sequence Number field configuration on compInfo hris-element
  • Compensation Info - Forward Propagation feature
  • Import Batch Size
  • Business Rule execution for Compensation Info Import

Work-Around

Between now and the 1702 release, it is possible to work around the error, so that Compensation Information data can still be imported. To identify which feature/configuration is causing the error for your instance and work around the issue, please follow the recommended steps below. Please work through the steps in order.

Step 1) Check whether the seq-number field is configured in the compInfo element with visibility as "both" under compInfo element in the Succession Data Model

  • If seq-number field is not configured/present under the compInfo hris-element then no need to add it. No change is required. Skip to Step 2
  • If seq-number field is configured but with visibility set to none, then change the visibility to both.

Step 2) The "Forward Propagation" permission for compInfo element must be disabled

Permission can be found under Admin Centre > Manage Permission Roles > Employee Central Import Settings > Enable Forward Propagation of Compensation Information for Inserts via Incremental Imports

  • Permission is at the role level. Make sure that the Enable Forward Propagation of Compensation Information for Inserts via Incremental Imports permission is disabled for all the Permission Roles which are granted to the logged in user (the user performing the import).

Step 3) Batch size for Employee Central and Foundation data import must be set to 50 Or 1.

The Batch size control can be found from Admin Centre > Company System and Logo Settings > Batch size for Employee Central and Foundation data imports (maximum allowed is 2000). Please ensure that you set the batch size to either 50 or 1. Do not use any other value.

  • If batch size is already set to 50 and yu are still facing the same issue, then reduce the batch size to 1 and try the import again.

NOTE: After importing the data with lesser batch size i.e. 1, revert the batch size to 50, otherwise it may cause performance issues.

NOTE: If you cannot see this option to perform this step, please contact your implementation partner to check if the option Version 10 UI is enabled. Case not, please enable this option.

Step 4) Disable  the "Enable Business Rules for selected area" feature

If none of the above workaround steps resolve the import error, then the last step is to disable the rules permission for compensation element.

The permission to execute Business Rules on Compensation Information import can be found from Admin Centre > Manage Permission Roles > Employee Central Import Settings > Enable Business Rules for selected area.

  • Permission is at the role level. Make sure that the Enable Business Rules for selected area permission is disabled for all the Permission Roles which are granted to the logged in user (the user performing the import).
